At the age of 19, Young spent a short time working for Jean Cocteau on his amphitheatre in Capd’Ail, where he lived amongst and studied the beat culture in Paris. Returning to England, several years were spent as a book illustrator, co-designing and illustrating books and games for James Galt. Young became a full time painter by the age of 31 with solo exhibitions in Salford Museum and galleries in England. He was commissioned by Granada Television to create the live painting in the highly acclaimed British production of Howard Spring’s Shabby Tiger. This was the first time actual paintings had been used as an integral part of a television production.

Extensive private commissions included painting the portrait of Prince Charles playing polo for the Anglo-American Sporting Club, portraits of several noted English sportsmen, private and commercial murals, trompe l’oeils, and sculptures.

Although having formerly studied art in the U.K. upon moving to New York, he became involved in both dance and theatre. This provided fresh inspiration for his art. Dance and movement became the strongest influence in his sculpture and painting, whether it is abstract or figurative. He studied dance with Brenda Buffalino and master classes with Honey Cole. With two partners he created the theatre company “Artists in Cahoots”, in his studio. This ran for three years.
The sculptures would be created from recycled wood found in the streets of New York. This extensive three-dimensional work naturally developed to creating and designing furniture with a focus on the specialised needs for recording studios. He created unique environments incorporating customized consoles sculptures and art.
